Chimanimani District is endowed with a flare of natural resources contributing immensely towards the country’s gross domestic product. One cannot express the feeling of disappointment at the rate which natural forests in Chimanimani District are being destroyed.
The Haroni and Nyakwaa Forest of Vhimba was a pride of the district. It once was the only low-lying equatorial forest area in Southern Africa. It was home to a variety of species only synonymous to the forest alone in the world. Such species includes rare birds, bush babies, multi colored monkeys amongst other species.
The need to create functional and vibrant community-based environment committee has not been more appealing than the present. However, the community-based approach cannot be implemented in isolation, environment law enforcement remains the bedrock for environment management due to its deterrent nature.
